Humbug damselfish
Dascyllus aruanus
Distribution: Western Pacific, Red Sea and East Africa, central and western Pacific, southern Japan and south to Sydney; the Marquesas and Tuamotu islands form the eastern boundary line of the distribution. Housing: Territorial she lives in the shallow lagoon or reef associal and aggressive, it tends to defend the bouquet of coral in which it is installed. One of the most remarkable on the reefs are the bridesmaids or family Pomacentridae fish. They constitute the majority of the fish on the reefs. They are small (no more than 10 cm) and usually gregarious. Most species gather in swarms of 10 to 200 individuals who are never far away from the coral head where they have settled. Description: Length: 80 mm. Sometimes confused with whitetail melanurus which has a black tail. Food: Part of small plankton-fish (plankton sub-invertebrates, and algae) diurnal who are often grouped in patches of open water above the substrate where they can find refuge in case of danger. |
