Distribution: Caribbean French Antilles .. Description: Size: 60cm to 1.80m. The upper opening up to 1m with a swollen almost 2m diameter body. Brown outside and lighter inside red color, consistency rather harsh. The wall outside a texture reminiscent of the rough stone or tree bark with non-regular growths along the body. Also called "Redwood of the reef" because of life estimated at 2000 years! Housing This is one of the largest species of sponge in the Caribbean, living between 5 and 15m depth in the reef area. Food: They get their food from the water that circulates around them. The cells are filled with a sponge eyelashes that trap and absorb plankton and tiny animals Sea. . |
