ERITREAN BUTTERFLYFISH

Chaetodon paucifasciatus

Distribution: Major part of the Indo-Pacific: Red Sea, Gulf of Aden.

Description: A black spot overlooking eyes. The sides are yellow with black stripes V-shaped tip which is directed along the axis of the mouth. The rear part of the body is characterized by a white band with black spots followed by an orange box lined with black edging.
The caudal fin is yellow at the base and orange.

Habitat: This fish is frequently seen in pairs or in small groups. It measures between 15 and 20cm, and moves in the reef between 5 and 65m deep.

Food: coral, sea fans and some algae.
