Distribution: Indian Ocean, Pacific, Caribbean Sea. Description: They are characterized by an outer shell formed of hexagonal plates forming a true bone weave. The mouth is protrusible and teeth are welded into a plaque. the dress is yellow, dotted with black spots. Size of 40 to 60 cm. Habitat: reef species, generally moves only in shallow waters. They are slow but very mobile. Under stress, they can secrete a toxin dangerous to other fish. The species is hermaphrodite. Food: They are omnivores (invertebrates, small crustaceans, molluscs, algae and sponges). |
