Scorpaena porcus
Distribution: The Eastern Atlantic : British Isles in the Azores and the Canary Islands , including Morocco , the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. Habitat: Isolated and sedentary , lives near the coast between stones hidden in herbaria . The red lionfish and brown rockfish are the most common species in the coastal border. Description: Its characteristics are very similar to that of Chapon (red scorpion fish ) . The skin flaps are missing around the jaw , but still present on the upper sides and back. They are longitudinally aligned . Overcome the branching tentacles protruding orbital arches. The body is gray with brown patches scattered . Radial fins are clear and brown stripes alternating . Venomous spines on its back . The lower jaw is reddish , without brilliancy . Food : It feeds on crabs, shrimp and small fish, scorpion fish is most active at dusk. |
